Classes
Competition pistol coaching for everyone from beginners to career shooters, and physical fitness training to enhance health and performance.
We provide professional training on becoming a competition pistol expert.
01
Dry Fire
Dry fire accounts for 95% of my training, since I believe 80-90% of what’s required in the sport can be trained without firing a shot.
02
Live Fire
On the outdoor range we’ll isolate the components of practical pistol shooting that require spending ammunition to learn.
03
Physical Training
With a background in strength/athletic training we will also enhance your physical abilities as they contribute to your abilities in the sport, as well as health and quality of life.
About Classes
Whether you’re a new shooter or well into your career in practical pistol shooting, my methods of training will expose you to new ideas, training methods, and goals that will help you accelerate your progress. I can’t claim to be the worlds top shooter, but I am a coach by profession and can share with you the training methods that I’ve used and continue using to become a top level shooter in just a couple years.
Many different coaching formats are available. One on one, small group (2-5), and large group (6-10). Any of these can be formatted for one or two days in length, and can be tailored to the needs and desires of the students based on their interests and skill level.
Another unique feature of the Sauerland program is the physical training. This can also be tailored to the student(s) as desired, at any level beginner to highly advanced. Physical fitness is vital as it relates to performance in any sport, including competitive shooting. Often undervalued are the long term benefits to health and quality of life that coke with good physical fitness. These are benefits you can expect to start seeing by including some physical training in your coaching with Joey Sauerland.”

Meet Joey Sauerland
I graduated from Miami University with a BS in Kinesiology and Health and began working my current job at Anytime Fitness. Every day I work with clients teaching, pushing, and motivating them to enhance their physical fitness. Health and physical training are a big part of my life, and I believe an important component of competitive shooting.
I became a USPSA member in 2021 and quickly decided this was the sport for me. For the last several years I’ve trained hard, largely under the guidance and coaching of Steve Anderson, to become the shooter I am today. I won’t speak too much to my skill level for fear of sounding boastful, but most would agree I’ve made huge amounts of progress in a very short amount of time.
I haven’t had access to vast amounts of ammunition, or the ability to go to an outdoor range, so I began with just dry fire training. Even when I did make it out to the outdoor range dry fire composed the great majority of my practice. This worked extremely well, and I didn’t adopt a regular live fire routine until I had made Grandmaster classification.
Now I compete on Team Masterpiece Arms, which is a huge honor. My training continues to evolve by the week, and I’m always learning more. In my sights are more area and national titles, as well as a world title.
